Buzos Restaurant Playa Del Carmen

Arriving at the Restaurant for the First Time

I still remember the first time my husband Steve and I walked up to Buzo’s Restaurant Bar while exploring Playa del Carmen. We had just moved to Mexico as expats and were eager to discover the best restaurants that the lively beach town had to offer.

As we approached Buzo’s, I was immediately struck by the elegant exterior with tropical plants and strings of lights lining the entrance. Steve opened the door for me and we stepped inside to find a romantic atmosphere with dim lighting, candlelit tables, and vibrant Mexican artwork adorning the walls.

A friendly hostess greeted us right away with a warm smile and led us to a nice table outside on the patio. Steve pulled out my chair like a gentleman as I got comfortable and opened up the menu to begin perusing their offerings. I couldn’t wait to discover the culinary treasures within!

Starting the Meal Off Right with Signature Cocktails at Buzo’s

After settling into our table on the charming patio area, a server came by to tell us about Buzo’s signature cocktail options. Having just arrived in Mexico, we were excited to try some traditional Mexican drinks.

I decided to try their house margarita on the rocks with a salted rim, made fresh with tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. Steve ordered a mojito with a Latin twist, muddled with Mexican mint and a hint of mango.

When the cocktails arrived, beautifully presented in ornate glassware, I eagerly took my first sip of the refreshing margarita. The balance of sweet and tart flavors was perfect. Steve also loved his tropical mojito.

As we clinked our glasses in a toast to our expat adventure in Mexico, I knew we were in for an amazing dining experience at Buzo’s. The cocktails had set the mood for a fabulous night out!

Perusing a Menu Filled with Mouthwatering Dishes at Buzo’s

As Steve and I sipped our delicious drinks under the twinkling patio lights, our server returned to tell us about the chef’s specials for the evening. Everything sounded incredible, from the sea bass in chili butter sauce to the ribeye steaks topped with spicy chimichurri.

I was impressed by the menu’s immense variety – there were so many options it was hard to choose! Steve loves steak while I tend to opt for vegetarian dishes, yet the menu catered to all preferences. I was thrilled to see a dedicated vegetarian section rather than just a simple pasta or risotto dish.

In the end, Steve went with the specialty ribeye while I chose the truffle mushroom risotto, one of my favorite comfort foods. Our server also recommended we start with an order of the empanadas trio appetizer to share.

As we waited for the food, I took in the elegant atmosphere and the joyful sounds of fellow diners laughing and enjoying their meals on the patio. I was so happy we had discovered this gem.

Indulging in Skillfully Prepared Appetizers and Entrees at Buzo’s

We didn’t have to wait long before our empanadas trio appetizer arrived, crowned with a tangy chimichurri sauce on the side for dipping.

I first sampled the classic beef picadillo empanada. The flaky pastry gave way to the savory, gently spiced filling within. Next came the stretchy cheese empanada, oozing with molten queso fresco. Finally, I tried the veggie empanada filled with sautéed corn, peppers, and onions – so fresh and tasty!

Before I knew it, our main courses emerged from the kitchen. Steve’s perfectly cooked medium-rare ribeye looked mouthwatering, nicely charred and topped with crispy onion strings. My truffle risotto was a sight to behold – creamy arborio rice punctuated with sautéed wild mushrooms and flecks of truffle, topped with Parmesan.

Taking my first bite of the risotto transported me to food heaven! The textures and earthy flavors blended so nicely with the richness of the cheese and cream. Across from me, Steve was raving about his steak and how it might be the best he’s ever tasted. It made me smile to see my husband so happy.

Enjoying the Rest of Our Evening with Great Wine and Dessert at Buzo’s

Halfway through our meal, our server stopped by the table to see how our food and drinks were holding up. Both our glasses were nearly empty! Steve ordered another Dos Equis while I asked the sommelier to recommend a nice wine pairing for my mushroom risotto.

He suggested an excellent Italian Pinot Grigio that balanced beautifully with the various flavors in my dish. I was impressed by Buzo’s stellar wine program and the staff’s ability to make spot-on recommendations.

By the time dessert menus came around, Steve and I were nearly stuffed. But when I saw they had churros con chocolate, my favorite Mexican sweet treat, I couldn’t resist! The crunchy-yet-soft churros were dusted with cinnamon sugar and came with a mug of thick, rich dipping chocolate – the perfect way to cap off an incredible meal.

Leaving Satisfied After a Five-Star Experience at Buzo’s

As we finished the last morsels of our churros and downed the final sips of our drinks, I leaned back happily in my chair, marveling over the wonderful night we’d had. From start to finish, Buzo’s had gone above and beyond our expectations.

Steve quickly asked for the check so he could treat me to this special dinner. As he paid the bill, I saw him add a generous tip for our server. I smiled thinking how fortunate I was to have such a kind, thoughtful husband.

On our way out, we stopped to compliment the hostess and chef, expressing our gratitude for the phenomenal food, drink, and hospitality. The entire staff beamed proudly and thanked us for coming.

As Steve and I strolled down the lively Playa del Carmen street hand-in-hand, comforted by full bellies and light hearts, I knew we’d found our new favorite date-night spot in our new Mexican home. I couldn’t wait to return to Buzo’s again soon!

Helpful Tips for Getting the Best Experience at Buzo’s

After several more delightful visits to Buzo’s Restaurant Bar, I feel equipped to offer some helpful tips to fellow foodies seeking a top-notch culinary experience. Here is my advice:

Make Reservations – While Buzo’s accepts walk-ins, reserving a table ahead ensures you get seated right away, especially for larger groups. This also guarantees your spot in their coveted patio section.

Ask About Specials – Don’t be afraid to ask your server about daily specials not listed on the menu – sometimes the chef’s impromptu creations end up being the tastiest dishes!

Request Wine Suggestions – Even if you’re not a wine aficionado, tell your waiter what you ordered and they’ll offer excellent pairing recommendations from Buzo’s award-winning wine program.

Save Room for Dessert – No matter how full you are by the end, you must try Buzo’s signature churros con chocolate or their decadent tres leches cake!

Make Time to Linger – Instead of rushing out after paying, savor the atmosphere a bit longer with coffee or a nightcap digestif. The staff never makes you feel hurried.
